Host Plants noted at survey site
Oak, Pine, Tulip Poplar
Moon Phase
Full Moon
The property had large oak trees around the house and was surrounded by cut grass and pasture fields with a tree line of mixed species of pine, tulip poplar, and other trees. A few ornamental plants and bushes around the house but none were identified as known host plants. On both nights a sheet was placed under the oak tree. It attracted a variety of insects. On the first night a second sheet was placed in the grass near the house. Fewer moths gathered on the grass sheet but it was visited by a very appropriate Luna Moth for the full moon. On the second night the second sheet was placed near the edge of the grass field near the tree line to lure out some moths. A few took up the offer but it was not very productive.
The weather was ideal for the first night of observations. It was warm with adequate humidity. The second night was delayed by a couple of hours due to passing thunder showers.
